July 2016 Monthly Recs

So, I was challenged awhile back, by my friend Michelle (Michellislife) to do one of these. So, while I struggle for new and exciting content…here I am!

I don’t think I have much to offer you, but I’m sure gonna try! Also, I still have no idea how to include pics onto my posts…so yeah…there’s that…aren’t you excited?!?!? LOL!

So, this month I have been reading the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. If you somehow haven’t read this series yet, it’s amazing! Think…fairytales…space…and then just grab the books because the premise sounds weird. I am currently reading Winter. I loved Cinder, liked Scarlet and loved Cress. I don’t have Stars Above yet, but I’m working on it. I’d love to do reviews for these books, but honestly…everyone’s done a review of these. So, I think I’ll just leave it to them. I can say that I get bored/distracted easily when I read. It takes a lot for me to block the world out and only focus on a book. I will go days without picking up a book I actually LIKE. So, that said, I couldn’t put Cinder down. I blew through the book. It’s non-stop and so engaging. The characters are phenomenal. The plot grabs ahold of you and takes you through every emotion. Wonderful books!

I am eager to read The Body Electric by Beth Revis. My fabulous friend Michelle did an interview with Beth Revis and it was so cool! She’s so down to earth and relatable. I loved everything she talked about and couldn’t wait to read ALL of her books. Michelle raves about her on her channel Michellislife. So, I’m dying to read The Body Electric and then obtain Across the Universe.

This month, I was fortunate enough to get a gift card…So I got music!! Top songs on my playlist are “Circles” by machineheart ft Vanic, “Close” by Nick Jonas, “H.O.L.Y.” by Florida Georgia Line, “My House” by Flo Rida, “Colors” by Halsey, “The Sound of Silence” by Disturbed, and “Cut The Cord” & “How Did You Love” by Shinedown. That’s my music!

TV: I’m addicted to UnREAL and My Crazy Ex. I also enjoy Food Network Star…cuz I love to cook. If you haven’t watched these shows, check them out! Great binge worthy junk food tv! Lastly, I’ve been binging on House with Hugh Laurie. I enjoyed it back when it was on tv and now they air reruns. I forgot how much fun that show was…soo I’ve gotten sucked in.

I can’t think of anything else that’s new or relevant, so I guess that’s my cue to go!

The Way You Make Me Feel…

I don’t know about you, but I choose my current reads based on how I feel. If I’m stressed out or overwhelmed, I’ll choose a lighter and easier read. If I need an escape & wanna get lost inside a book, I’ll go fantasy. So I’ve decided to write this blog post about feelings! These are some recommendations based on how I was feeling and what I chose to read. Ready, Set, GO!

If you are feeling lazy and want a quick read: Sophie Kinsella’s “Remember Me?”, “Twenties Girl” or “The Undomestic Goddess” happen to be some great choices. They have great characters and so many laugh out loud moments. Chick Lit is great for PMS, a Summer Read, My Spouse/BF/GF/Partner Sucks Right Now, and a quick break from long running series.

You want Spooky: Read Caroline Kepnes’ “You”. It’ll freak you out…possibly permanently lol Stalkers…Scary!! Already read it? Try “The Door To December” or “Fear Nothing” by Dean Koontz. These are some of his earlier works….when his books were incredible! I may consider doing a full post about his earlier works, so I’ll leave this brief. I’m also going to be doing a review of The Door To December after I reread it. It was always a favorite! Stay Tuned! 😉

Miss your best friend and are seeking A Strong Female Relationship: Try “The Right Thing” by Amy Conner. These contemporary, realistic books aren’t usually my thing. I stumbled onto this book because I was looking for a quick change from the normal mystery or fantasy reads. It’s a story about two young girls from different sides of the tracks, if you will. They become best friends and then one day…the one friend is gone. Years later, she returns and she needs help. It’s a beautiful and very realistic story of female relationships/friendships. I quite enjoyed it!

Happy or just need a small pick me up? What about Magical Realism: It isn’t for everyone, but if you’re going to try it out I recommend “The Peach Keeper” by Sarah Addison Allen. This does have some mixed reviews, but I quite enjoyed it. It’s a quick read and the magical realism is done in such a way that I wasn’t bothered by it. Sometimes magical realism leaves you going..WTF?? This book kinda tied things up but along the way…magical things lead you forward. It’s hard to explain without spoilers, but it was fun.

Need to kick ass and love fantasy elements: You need to read The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning. Although the series doesn’t start off this way, Mac is a badass and Barron’s is a sexy, sexy man. These books are mentioned a lil too often on my blog, so I’ll spare you ANOTHER gush….just read them! Hehe

Feeling Compassionate and seeking a Diverse Read? Try “Pigs in Heaven” by Barbara Kingsolver. There is a “prequel” of sorts to this book, it’s called “The Bean Trees”. I haven’t finished The Bean Trees just yet, so for this post…I’ll just stick with Pigs in Heaven. You do NOT need to read Bean Trees before Pigs in Heaven. Both books revolve around a young woman who leaves home and suddenly becomes a mother to a young Native American girl named Turtle. The Bean Trees focus’ on Taylor becoming an insta mom and Pigs In Heaven discusses life years later. In Pigs in Heaven, Turtle witnesses a freak accident and her/Taylors’ life suddenly changes. It’s a heart wrenching and beautiful story about family and the Cherokee Nation. I can’t wait to reread and will do a full review!

Lastly, I have to include a fantasy read. If you want/need an escape: ….Well….I’ve recommended all of my Fantasy books…and often. So here’s some top choices.

Do you like Middle Grade? Try Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. I bought this as a gift for a middle grade reader and previewed it’s contents. I couldn’t get enough and polished off the whole series! I strongly recommend them! (4 books total)

Do you like High Fantasy? The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss surprised me. I went into this book eager to find out about the paranormal element I read about. That element wasn’t as strong, but the story gripped me. The writing was impeccable. It takes a lot to keep me interested and he did it!

Fairytale Fan? The Lunar Chronicles are beyond anything I ever imagined. I had them on my list for years and never made them a priority. That was a BIG mistake. Don’t wait another second, grab those books and gobble them up! I’m in love!

So, I leave you with these choices for now. If you liked this post, please leave me a comment or Tweet me! If you enjoy these, I’ll keep doing them! I’ve wrangled up some wonderful “guests”  to write up their emotional recommendations as well! If you’d like to be a Guest, please let me know! I will send you emotions/moods/etc and you can name a book you would read. Right now, I’m thinking 1 post a month. (I’m also considering…if you are a Guest…we can post your answers on BOTH of our channel/blogs. That way we both get the views! Just an idea! Keep me posted everyone!

I wanna be liked…

I want people to view my posts and enjoy them. I want my content to be genuine and conversational. I want to provide bookish and gaming information to those who didn’t know my info before. I want to make friends! I want tons of friends that I can chat with about whatever book I’m reading. I want them to be comfortable coming to me about books, or life, or anything!

In a dream world, I’d love to score some ARCs from my favorite authors. I want to read their book ASAP and I can recommend it to everyone I come across! Glorious!

I don’t want to be famous or on panels. I’d freeze up and get nervous. I just want that many friends or that many people who respect my opinions.

I’d love to read half as many books as people do in the Booktube world and NOT get incredibly burnt out.

I want people to be able to say how they feel without hurtful trolls tearing them apart. (I know, dream on!)

I want all my booktube friends to never doubt themselves or their content. I see it far too often and you are all so amazing that you never have anything to worry about.

I want to put out content on a regular schedule and actually be able to stick to it. I envy those who do.

I want to be noticed.

What do you want? Tweet (@LetsBookAboutIt), RT,  or Comment down below. I know that I WANT to know!

My Dream Team…

So I had this random idea…if I could construct the perfect character in a video game (Using existing video game characters) I would make them just like….(Think of it like a game! hehe)

I’d want my dream character to be as strong as Auron from Final Fantasy 10. The guys a tank!

As nimble as Ezio from Assassins Creed 2. That guy can make crazy jumps, dives off buildings and runs across ropes!! Heck Yeah! (Plus he speaks Italian…ohhh yeahh)

As witty as Raven from Tales of Vesperia. That dudes a smart ass!

As sexy as Balthier from Final Fantasy 12. If I have to look at him, he better be hot and steamy!

As smart as Shepard from Mass Effect. He puts things together and doesn’t take any sh*t.

As tough as Ashe from Final Fantasy 12. She’s my fave badass chick. She’s a princess and a healer and yet…Don’t mess with her!

As smart as Tifa from Final Fantasy 10. She kicks ass and knows what needs to get done!

Every girl needs a lil sass. As sassy as Morrigan from Dragon Age. She’ll cut you with her words! Ouch!

As sweet as Zelda, as in Legend of … She’s a princess and yet she’s not a push over. She’s kind and will do anything for her people. She’s the kinda ruler you want!

As pretty as …well…if I’m badass…I wanna look like Jack from Mass Effect 2. Damn, she’s amazing! If I’m gonna be sweet and demure I’d wanna look like Aerith (FF7) or Kairi (Kingdom Hearts).

This was just some random fun. Call it a Tag or don’t. How would you create a dream character? Make a post/video or tweet me/DM me/comment in the section below….Have a great day!

RPG Gamer Tag (Original)

Hi!!! So, if you don’t know much about my previous Gaming history…here’s a brief lesson…

I played Mario Brothers and Tiny Toon Adventures on the original Nintendo. That was my knowledge of video games. Lol! Until, I met my hubby who told me games were now more than simple 8 or 16 bit characters 😛 Who knew? Certainly not me! He showed me Final Fantasy XII and I was in LOVE. I went to watch him play other Final Fantasy games, Kingdom Hearts, etc. Then, I threw my hat into the ring and jumped into Gears of War…cuz I’m badass….lmao no…more like because I had a death wish. I died. A lot. I mean…a lot. So sad. Yet, I overcame the fear of Maulers and OMG Berserkers (no, I lie…that fear is still very much with me) to somehow get better! Suddenly, I was an asset…Oh yeaaaah! My love of gaming has continued ever since…whether I’m watching or playing. So, I decided to create a Tag about video games and my fave genre…RPGs (Role Playing Games). Lets dive in!

  1. What was your first memorable gaming experience like? My neighbors had a Nintendo, but we didn’t. So I had to go to their house to play. I’d get as far as the Fish Level in Mario (Maaaybe Bowser) and I’d have to leave. Of course, the Nintendo didn’t allow you to save your game back then. So everyday after, was a repeat of the first. I never got past Bowser LOL
  2. So we know about the amnesiac main character, the princess who no one knows is a princess (seriously?), and the team member who totally betrays you (Whyyyyy??). What’s your favorite game plot line? Predictable or shocking. (Try to leave out spoilers by being vague or not naming the game) There’s a very well known game out there where Person One comes from a dream and he doesn’t know it. Neither does his love interest. He disappears and that whistle scene killed me. I’ll never forget it.
  3. Your characters go through many different locations in a well made RPG. What are your favorite locations? Wanna tell us why? I love Besaid in Final Fantasy 10. I feel like I could live there for the rest of my life and be happy. I also love Hyrule and want be friends with Link/Zelda hehe In old school games, I like dungeons like in Zelda games. Overall, I’d probably choose Traverse Town or Radiant Gardens from the Kingdom Hearts series because…Disney meets Final Fantasy!
  4. Half naked chicks in video games…seriously? What’s up with that? lol Who are your favorite characters? (Can be from multiple games and can absolutely be a list) Balthier from Final Fantasy 12, Rikku from FF10, Moogles, Sora/Kairi/Donald/Goofy/Axel & the Nobodies from Kingdom Hearts 2, Alistair  and Oghren from Dragon Age, Karol and Rita from Tales of Vesperia, Gorons from Zelda games and Barrett from Final Fantasy 7…I like the comic relief and the cute ones lol As far as leaders, Shepard from Mass Effects, Ezio Auditore De Firenze (Yum!) from Assassins Creeds, Vaan from Final Fantasy 12, Yuna from Final Fantasy 10 and Cloud from Final Fantasy 7. Heck of a list!
  5. The leveling up system can be wonderful or wicked. What are your favorite systems and your least favorite? My favorite system is the Gambit system in Final Fantasy 12. I know this got some slack, but I’m all about it. I knew what I needed my people to get done and I assigned them the tasks. It was a well oiled machine! On the other hand, Final Fantasy 10’s sphere grid sucked (in my opinion). It was too open ended and people had to collect sooo many points just to move around the board. Luckily, when they made Final Fantasy 13…they got the sphere grid right…that’s the only thing they got right but yeah. 😛
  6. A game that just didn’t make the mark. You hated it. To date, Final Fantasy 13 and Assassins Creed Rogue. FF13 looked beautiful and I had high hopes. The characters were WAY underdeveloped and  so I felt nothing for them. The linear storyline and inability to change characters…no thank you. AC: Rogue made no sense to me. For him to turn his back on his brothers, it needed to be a HUGE deal and make sense. The BS they gave us, not believeable. One conversation and it could have been solved. Ridiculous.
  7. The boss fight that kicked the crap outta you was… As no shocker to a Final Fantasy Fan….Sephiroth is the man! Not only is one fight bad enough, but multiple incarnations with no save….WTF?!?
  8. The one thing you love about RPGs and the one thing you don’t love. I love well developed characters and getting pulled into their world. I love getting lost in it and wanting to help them save the day. I don’t love games that require A TON of level grinding. This wasn’t an issue before becoming a mom, but now….I don’t have the time and yet I still wanna finish a great game.

That’s all! I like to keep things short! I hope you love this and want to try it! If you are too busy to do a full video or blog post, please tweet or DM me some answers! I’d love to hear what you have to say!! Please feel free to leave comments below, if you’d like!

PS. I noticed I chose a lot of Final Fantasy games lol They are my favorites, but not the only thing I play! Just FYI if you want to chat about other RPGs.

Where in the World is LetsBookAboutIt?

Hi all!! I’m back!! I thought I would write a lil something about where I’ve been and what’s been going on with me. So, if you missed me, here ya go! If you didn’t notice my absence, that hurts guys…it hurts ;P

First of all, my internet and computer had a secret conversation behind my back. They decided to mutiny and cause me much grief and heartache. Maybe they don’t like my content? Or maybe my content is just TOO good and they wanted to keep me to themselves 😉 Unsure.

So, Computer decided to pretend Internet wasn’t working, when it was indeed working. You can’t fool me! Computer also decided to team up with WordPress and not save my posts or let me link to peoples content. Stupid Computer. The worst culprit was Internet. Internet decided to call in sick and stop working for days or even WEEKS at a time. It would pop up and work during times of the day when I simply CANNOT create posts and then disappear during the times I could. Ugh! This got very frustrating. So I took time off.

Anyone who has walked away from something knows, it can be hard to come back. I lost my Oomph. I didn’t know what I wanted to say even if I COULD say something. All of the books I was reading (are still currently reading) have been well hyped and the reviews are everywhere. I didn’t need to be another voice saying, “BUY CINDER!” What’s a girl to do?

Then my bestest book buddy, Michelle from Michellislife made a video. It mentioned how I maybe…kinda…sorta…hadn’t posted in…MONTHS (plural!)! I needed to get my butt in gear. So, here I am. I just posted the Tag she tagged me in and now I’m going to try my best to think of new and fun content. I need this.

So, if you have any ideas for me…send them my way! Please keep in mind that Computer and Internet both suck and are still working against me. So, posts may be in clumps or few/far between. If the Tag requires too much from me, I may not be able to do it 😦 It’s not me….it’s THEM… Grrrrr

THANKS FOR READING!!! Love you all and I’ve missed you!!

2016 Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

I was Tagged by Michelle from the wonderful Michellislife. Original created by ReadLikeWildFire and Ely Jayne. (I’m very sorry for not including links. This is the 3rd time I’ve tried to write this and it simply won’t let me link anything. Grr!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2016: I truly can’t decide between The Raven Boys and Cinder.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2016: So, “sequel” would mean Book 2 in a series and I haven’t had a very successful book 2 yet this year. Dream Thieves was decent, but not my fave book and Scarlet took me awhile to get into. I guess I don’t have one, yet.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to: I know there are quite a few, but I’m drawing a blank! Well, Laurien Berenson’s latest book comes out on July 26th and I want it! So that counts, right?! I also haven’t read Passenger yet. I own it, but haven’t read it just yet.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: Heartless by Marissa  Meyer!!!

5. Biggest disappointment: I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Death of A Dog Whisperer by my fabulous fave author, Laurien Berenson. It wasn’t exactly her fault, whoever designed the cover…they gave away the mystery and I dislike them greatly. Also, although I loved getting to know the new characters, (I really did) I thought it took awhile to get to the mystery part. It’s hard to explain. I liked the extra character development, but thought it needed more mystery. I don’t know. I’m still looking forward to all her future books!

6. Biggest surprise: Uprooted by Naomi Novik. I thought that I would like it, but I had no idea how much I’d love it. Also, how much it would stick with me. Great book!

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you) I have 2! Maggie Stiefvater and Marissa Meyer. They aren’t new to anyone else, I’m a bit behind lol, but I now LOVE them!

8. Newest fictional crush: Noah. Swoon. Noah from The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. Still swooning.

9. Newest favourite character: This is so hard. I just can’t decide.

10. Book that made you cry: I’m just going to say The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater and leave it at that. No spoilers.

11. Book that made you happy: Cinder. I got lost in the pages and can’t wait to get back to that world.

12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received) I’d say my WordCloud edition of The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year? I need to finish Winter by Marissa Meyer and buy Stars Above. I want to read The Body Electric by Beth Revis and get ahold of the Across the Universe trilogy. I want to finish the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. Also,  I want to read the Books of Elsewhere series by Jacqueline West. (Thanks Jody!) Lastly, maybe read The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss, but I’m not rushing because he still didn’t put out book 3 yet.

14 Favourite Book Community Member (Blogger, Booktuber and Bookstagrammer) Michelle from Michellislife and Jody from thatonegirlwhoreads.com are the greatest. If my internet decides to work, I love to watch Sam from SamsNonsense and Kristin from WhatsKappening. I also love Jade the bedtime bookworm’s reviews at bedtimebookworm.com.

Again, I apologize for not including links. I’m doing all I can just to post this! These people are worth looking up, trust me!
